Mt. Conness is a striking feature visible from many parts of the park, with classic lines etched into its white granite. This trip offers time for relaxed exploration of the Yosemite high country, while also providing a day to make a challening summit bid. Mt. Conness is clearly visible from many parts of Yosemite National Park, which means you will be able to easily trace your memory back to this experience. On our trek we will enjoy the sights and sounds of the Tuolumne backcoun- try, as well as an impressive 360 degree view from the top of one of Yosemites most beautiful peaks.

Trip Itinerary

Check in to Curry Village within spectacular Yosemite Valley anytime after 5pm. Meet your guide and group at 6pm on the porch of the Mountain Shop in Curry Village for a short meet-and-greet and trip orientation. Dinner tonight is on your own at one several local restaurants

After breakfast on your own, you will meet your guide in front of the Curry Village Mountain Shop at 7:30am. We’ll caravan up to the Dog Lake Trailhead in Tuolumne Meadows. The drive takes about 1.5 hours, and offers some good sightseeing along the way. At the trailhead, we’ll gear up and then hike about 6 miles to the Young Lakes area for our first night’s camp, where we will be greeted by a multitude of stars in the night sky.
6 miles, Elevation: +1850’/-720’

Today we’ll start our day with a hearty breakfast before grabbing our packs and hitting the trail. Depending on how far we made it on Day 1, we may need to first relocate camp to Upper Young Lakes. Options for the day range from swimming and fishing to hiking/exploring Ragged Peak (10,912’). Get ready to bask in the alpenglow come sundown. This “rest day” will allow you to acclimate to the higher elevation, and recharge for the summit push on Day 4.
1 mile, Elevation: +300’/-50’

Beginning in the early morning, we’ll eat breakfast and start our hike to the summit of Mt. Conness (12,590’). This is a route that is primarily off trail, and so proper hiking boots are recommended, as well as sun protection, rain gear, and plenty of water. After hiking offtrail at a steady pace, we will enjoy lunch on the summit, which offers a commanding 360 degree view of the area, including the 20 Lakes Basin east of Yosemite NP. After we get our fill of spectacular views, we will head back down the mountain where a sumptuous feast awaits on our final evening in the High Sierra.
8 miles, Elevation: +2600’/-2600’

Today, we’ll enjoy our last morning together and take a leisurely stroll down a trail painted with Sierra wildflowers to Tuolumne Meadows, one of the most biodiverse locations in Yosemite. We'll have trail snacks, but lunch is on your own; perhaps the best bet would be to drive over Tioga Pass to the Whoa Nellie Deli for its famous fish tacos and incredible views of Mono Lake.

About the trip

Based from the superlative Yosemite Valley, we’ll achieve the summit of one of the world’s most iconic peaks: Half Dome. Along the way, we’ll travel the shores of the “Wild and Scenic” Merced River, pass Vernal and Nevada waterfalls, and hike a section of the famous John Muir Trail. Surely, though, the highlight of the trip is standing atop Half Dome (8,845’) with sweeping views of the Yosemite high country.

Accommodations: We provide your first night lodging in the Curry Village tent cabins and two nights tent camping (price based on shared occupancy). Located in the heart of the Yosemite Valley, Curry Village is the ideal spot to explore all that Yosemite has to offer.

Equipment: We supply all group camping gear (stoves, cookware, water filters, group first aid kit, etc.). We can also supply personal camping equipment (backpacks, sleeping bags, ground pads, trekking poles, and tents) upon request with no additional fee. You are welcome to bring your own personal camping equipment if you prefer. A detailed gear list will be sent to you upon registration.

Meals: We provide meals starting with lunch on day two through breakfast and trail snacks the last day. Our "Backcountry Gourmet" meals have been acclaimed in Sunset Magazine. We take pride in providing excellent meals even in remote surroundings.

Your Cost Includes: Meals (as noted above), group camping gear (as noted above), personal camping equipment (as listed above), accommodations (as noted above), applicable permits, professional mountain guide(s), pre-trip planning packet, and trip support from our friendly office staff.

Not Included: Personal clothing and footwear, personal gear not listed under “Equipment” above, meals while in the front country, tips for guides (10-20% of trip cost is customary), transportation, and optional trip cancellation insurance.

Preparation: Training is paramount to the enjoyment and success of your trip. We recommend exercising in the months prior to your trip to bolster sustained cardiovascular/aerobic activities as well as core and leg strength. Day hikes with a full backpack, preferably on hilly, off road terrain, is the best way to train for our trips. Activities such as cycling and step-master type machines are also excellent and preferable to a routine comprised solely of running.
