At SYMG we value our love for the outdoors and bringing these passions into the experiences we offer. Over the course of a season, our guides wear a lot of hats: On any given day guides find themselves navigating mountain trails, cooking gourmet meals, sharing stories & knowledge of natural history, interfacing with the Park Service personnel, handling risk management scenarios, and much more. The rewards of sharing incredible landscapes with a group of like-minded travelers couldn't be greater!
Mountain guiding and the adventure travel industry are exciting and we take pride in providing a welcoming and professional environment for our staff. Since 1991, SYMG has provided an atmosphere for Guides and Office Administrators to pursue a career that combines the outdoor lifestyle with a strong work ethic and professionalism. Our office and guide house are located just outside of the southern entrance of Yosemite National Park.
Our staff is composed of an administrative team of dedicated professionals as well as Guides who specialize in leading trips including Day Hiking and Park Interpretation, Rock Climbing, Backpacking, and extended Expedition-style trips. We are fortunate to attract the best of the best Guides who often return year after year. SYMG also offers an intern program to provide the training necessary to lead our trips and prepare you to be a guide.
The responsibilities of the guide include organizing trip logistics (food and gear prep), conducting trip orientations, all cooking, cleaning and camp chores, repair and maintenance of SYMG gear, completion of trip reports and maintaining a safe, fun and memorable experience for paying clients while in the backcountry.
This position is for a full-time day hiking and naturalist guide. Most days will be spent in the front-country of Yosemite leading small groups on various hiking and/or educational tours. This position is for a full-time rock guide. Most days will be spent in the front-country of Southern Yosemite leading small groups on full-day and half-day guided climbs in our local area. You would also lead our Rock Weekend and Rock Camp trips which are 3 and 5 days in length.
SYMG’s internship program offers the opportunity to “cut your teeth” alongside seasoned mountain guides and professional office staff from an industry-leading company. Interns who are quick learners, show initiative and who interact well with the general public are best suited to take advantage of SYMG’s program. The program can be catered to address specific needs for university credit.
