Rock Climbing - Learning to Lead Rock Camp - Itinerary
- About the Trip: During this five-day course you will learn how to lead sport climbs, lead belay, build and clean sport anchors, as well as the necessary rope handling skills. The goal of the camp is that you will be able to take the skills learned during your course to start leading sport routes on your own safely. The trip experience is rounded out with great camping, eating, star gazing, and hanging around the campfire with new and old friends.
- Group Size: 2 - 4 Participants with 1 Guide.
- Grade: From 5.4-5.10+, beginner top-rope routes to classic multi-pitch climbing to 5.6 and up bolted sport climbs.
- Equipment: All camping and climbing gear is provided if requested on the registration form: sleeping bags, tents, pads, harnesses, shoes and helmets. You may print out a detailed list of what to bring, directions, and this itinerary from our web page. All lead climbing gear (ropes, draws, carabineers and anchors) will be provided by SYMG.
- Meals: Dinners & Breakfasts are included.
Lunches need to be brought by you. We suggest simple picnic style lunches that can be packed and taken with you each day. We will not be near our campground at lunch, time. The guide will have some cooler space for your perishables. Examples are salami and cheese, bread, fruit, trail mix, cliff bars, bagels, cream cheese, sandwiches, chips, etc.
- Cost of the Trip: $895 per person
- Your Cost Includes: All dinners, breakfasts, camping gear, climbing gear, guides, and expert climbing instructions.
- Not Included: Personal gear, alcoholic beverages, lunches, tips for guides (10-20%) and optional trip cancellation insurance.
- Preparation: Rock climbing experience is a must (either outdoors or indoors). Climbers should be comfortable top roping climbs up to 5.10a before taking this course.
- Day 1: Meet at Fresno Campground between 4 & 6 pm. Dinner is served at 6 pm.
- Day 2: After breakfast we head to the dome. We work on lead climbing techniques, lead belaying, rope handling skills, and proper falling techniques.
- Day 3: The morning is dedicated to perfecting the skills learned the day before. After lunch we work on building and cleaning sport anchors.
- Day 4: Today is the day! After demonstrating perfect leading techniques we will spend the day lead climbing and belaying.
- Day 5: After we break down camp we head back to the crag to lead climb and practice the skills learned the previous days. We finish up around 4-5pm on Friday.
