Hike For Discovery
Clothes and gear to bring on hike day
- Daypack
- Shorts
- Light waterproof-breathable rain jacket
- Lightweight Fleece
- Lightweight wool hat to start if unseasonably cold or going on Half Dome trip hat with brim (ie: baseball) for sun protection.
- Water
- Moleskin or bandaids for blisters
- Bug repellent
- Sunscreen
- Chapstick
- Camera
- Weather: June typically brings warm daytime weather and you should expect temps between 60-80 for the highs and 35-45 for the lows overnight. Even though the weather is typically sunny, at any time the Sierra mountains can bring thundershowers and rain, so you'll need to be prepared by bringing a lightweight rain shell and a lightweight fleece top for warmth.
- Boots: Lightweight low or high top hiking boots. No court or running shoes please. See boot section for more details.
- Socks: Wool or wool-synthetic blend socks. No cotton socks allowed.
- Camel back water system or water bottles: At least 3 liters is preferred (96 oz). 2 liters at a minimum. Depending on the hikes, there will be water sources to refill through out the day and your guide's will carry water filters.
- Trekking poles: Lightweight trekking poles are recommended.
- Extra snacks: Clif bars, trail mix, or your favorite snack on top of the provided lunch.
