- Fly Rod / Reel / Line: 4-6wt. set up w/ WF floating line. We have extra rods and reels for those who do not have their own. Please make sure that we know about any equipment needs two weeks before departure.
- Flies / Leader: I recommend buying any additional flies and leader (best leader is 9ft tapered down to 6x) that you want on your person at the Green. Guides will be providing most of the flies and leader materials, however, it will never hurt to have some of your own with you incase the guide is working with someone else.
- UT Fishing License: We will be picking these up first thing on Friday morning.
- Fishing Vest: This isn't mandatory....but will be helpful. If you have one fly box, a pair of snips or a knife, fly float and some forcepts on your person you will be all set. Other items that will be helpful can be picked up at the shop on Friday.
- Waders: Waders are not optional. It is best if you have your own, as they will be personally fitted before hand. We have extras here and will need to know exact sizes if we are to provide them. I would recommend that you buy a gortex wader with boots from Orvis or Cabella's or the like if you plan on purchasing a pair. This way you're covered with shoes as well.
- Wading Shoes: You'll need them if your waders don't have built-in boots. Felt soles are perfect for the Green.
- Pants: Long comfortable cotton pants or jeans for the evening. Some fleece under-layer for waders may be preferable.
- Shorts: A couple pairs of comfortable shorts if it gets hot in the Canyon but I would expect to be wearing pants most of the time.
- Shirts: Bring a few t-shirts including a long sleeve and a short sleeve, or a short sleeve and a thermal underwear top.
- Sweater / Jacket: Fleece or pile, Patagonia style jackets or pullovers are best. This item should be something to keep you warm at night, and comfortable enough to walk around in if it's cool during the days. It could get cold in Oct. but most likely we will see sun and beautiful temps. However, come prepared just incase.
- Rain Jacket / Shell: Always a good idea just in case we get some afternoon showers or protection from the wind.
- Bandana / Cap: Fishing Lids or bandannas are great for keeping the sweat out of your eyes and help you see the water better. Also, great for sun protection!
- Sunglasses: Polarized are best for fishing as it helps you see into the water to sight fish.
- Personal Toiletries: Sunscreen, chapstick, etc.
- Medications: Bring any special meds, vitamins, bee sting kit, allergy medicine, etc.
- Water Bottle: It is a dry climate so please carry at least one, one liter plastic water bottle.
- Book / Journal: Optional.
- Camera: There will be many photo opportunities during the trip. Don't forget extra film/cards and batteries!
- Day Pack: Needed to carry any personal items you want along for the hike.
The above is by no means a complete or exhaustive list. If you have questions, call SYMG and ask. Remember, SYMG brings all group cooking gear, stoves, water filters, maps, matches, compasses, emergency/first aid gear, and toilet paper.
