- Fly Rod / Reel / Line: 4-6wt. set up w/ WF floating line. Rods/reels are available through SYMG and should be reserved in advance; cost is $25.00 for the trip.
- Flies / Leader: Call & speak with one of our fly fishing guides regarding recommended patterns and size of leader you should bring if you'd like to expand your personal fly selection beyond the recommendations on the itinerary.
- CA Fishing License: Daily licenses can be purchased upon arrival at the local shops.
- Hiking Boots / Wading Shoes: Bring a pair of wading shoes (5.10 aqua stealth soles are the best for conditions in the Yosemite area. L.L. Bean makes excellent, reasonably priced wading shoes), or lightweight hiking boots (an alternative to wading shoes, but not nearly as effective) that you can walk in the streams with and that are big enough to accommodate your waders (if your waders are stockingfoot style).
- Waders: Waders are optional. You don't need them though they may allow you to be in & out of the streams a bit more comfortably if temperatures are seasonally cool. Typically we 'wet wade' in wading shoes with shorts in the Yosemite region.
- Pants: Long comfortable cotton pants or jeans for the evening.
- Shorts: A couple pairs of comfortable shorts for hiking/fishing.
- Shirts: Bring a few t-shirts including a long sleeve and a short sleeve, or a short sleeve and a thermal underwear top.
- Sweater / Jacket: Fleece or pile, Patagonia style jackets or pullovers are best. This item should be something to keep you warm at night, and comfortable enough to hike in if it's cool during the days.
- Rain Jacket / Shell: Always a good idea just in case afternoon showers or protection from the wind.
- Cap: A baseball style cap serves the same purpose and is good sun protection as well.
- Sunglasses: Polarized are best for fishing as it helps you see into the water to sight fish.
- Personal Toiletries: Sunscreen, chapstick, etc.
- Medications: Bring any special meds, vitamins, bee sting kit, allergy medicine, etc.
- Water Bottle: Carry at least one, one liter plastic water bottle. Nalgene makes the best but even an Evian bottle will do.
- Book / Journal: Not necessary, but you may be able to enjoy some quiet time prior to sleep or during the day.
- Camera: There will be many photo opportunities during the trip. Don't forget extra film/cards and batteries!
- Day Pack: Needed to carry any personal items you want along for the hike.
The above is by no means a complete or exhaustive list. If you have questions, call SYMG and ask. Remember, SYMG brings all group cooking gear, stoves, water filters, maps, matches, compasses, emergency/first aid gear, and toilet paper.
