About the Trip: A day guide for wade fishing orFly Fishing float tubing is an excellent way to learn new skills and maximize your time in the Yosemite area. All levels of fly fishing instruction may be covered by your guide, at your request. Choose from casting lessons to still water and stream techniques, locating fish, nymphing, dry fly fishing , indicator fishing, or learn about specific streams like the quality water of the Merced. If you do not already have lodging reservations, our reservation staff will be happy to give you recommendations. Our professional guides have spent years perfecting their skills in and around Yosemite and look forward to not only teaching you about fly fishing but showing you the spectacular Yosemite area and Sierra high country.
  • Group Size: 1-4 fly fishers per guide.
  • Grade: Beginner through advanced/expert.
  • Equipment: Bring appropriate clothes, personal items, and a fly-fishing rod set-up with flies. Rod/reel rentals are available.
  • Cost of the Trip: Private Guide for 1-2 people (daily rate-8 hours) $365. Each additional person is $95. 1/2 day Private Guide for 1-2 people (9am to 1pm or 2pm to 6pm) $255. Each additional person is $65.
  • Your Cost Includes: Expert guiding and teaching, rod/reel, flies, terminal tackle.
  • Not Included: Lunche, license, tips for guides (10-20% of your trip fee).
  • Meals: We suggest that you bring a lunch and water with you. Many hotels in the area pack box lunches upon request.
  • Preparation: If possible, beginners should take a basic casting class prior to the weekend, rent/watch an instructional video, and/or purchase a copy of THE ORVIS FLYFISHING GUIDE by Tom Rosenbauer. The SIERRA TROUT GUIDE by Ralph Cutter is an excellent introduction to Sierra fly fishing.
  • Itinerary: All privately guided days are 8 hours, from 9am until 5pm unless arranged in advance otherwise. Some hatches on the Merced River for instance occur primarily at dusk, in which case, we recommend a later start time. Your guide will meet you at your hotel or at a designated meeting location near the stream or lake--whichever is more convenient to the location where you'll be fishing and whether or not you've requested transportation. Your guide has three goals; a safe, enjoyable trip, to teach you new skills, and to help you catch as many fish as possible. Please inform your guide of additional goals you may have for your day.
